  • Zika

SSI began preparing for Zika in Managua as soon as the virus was reported in Brazil. Zika is a viral disease spread by the same mosquito as dengue, chikungunya, west nile, and yellow fever. Little is known about the virus and disease due to a lack of current research. We are working to change that.

  • chik

SSI is now involved in two projects supporting Chikungunya research in the Americas. The viral disease is transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes, and shares some clinical signs with dengue. It can be misdiagnosed in areas where dengue is common.

  • eHealth

Launched in 2008, SSI’s ICT for Health Program is based on our experience with using sophisticated, but low cost, information and communication technologies (ICTs) to support eHealth and mHealth projects in Latin America.
